Nature Park, Maribo Lakes
Maribosø is the 8th biggest lake in Denmark and is the first natural area in Denmark to be accepted into Europarc Federation in 2012.
Maribosøerne, a unique conservation area, is situated in the middle of Lolland. From a national viewpoint, Maribosøerne is among our most outstanding natural areas, and because of the rich bird life, it is also a nature area of international importance.
Nature Park Maribosøerne is the common name for the lakes: Søndersø, Røgbølle Lake, Hejrede Lake, Nørresø and the surrounding hinterland.
The four lakes are located in an area of magnificent manor houses, surrounded by fields, meadows, marsh and forest land, and give a real chance for bird and wildlife enthusiasts to experience some great sightings. The Nature Park has many ancient monuments, and a rich cultural history.
We at Hotel Lolland and Hostel Maribo work with some of the nature guides in the area and trips can be arranged to the Nature School, with rangers as guides and teachers or you can be taken on a trip with the “Anemone” to Borgø where you will find remnants of the old “Refshale Borg” from the 11th century. One can also go ashore on the island by the old “Skelsnæs-hut” and listen to pirate stories from the old days. (Cruise and tour guide by fee)
